What is Affiliate Marketing?
Is Affiliate Marketing for Beginners-a good business model? Affiliate Marketing is when an established company, offers an individual, a financial reward for bringing sales or traffic to their company.
The earliest expression, of this business model, has been around since 1989, when PC Flowers and Gifts, was launched by William J. Tobin.
From there, it has grown in leaps and bounds, to become one of the most popular methods of doing business today.
Is Affiliate Marketing for the beginner? Is Affiliate Marketing the easiest and least expensive way of starting your own business?
5 Reasons to Consider Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is a proven, effective method for young, and beginner entrepreneurs, to get started in their own business. As a business model, affiliate marketing has very low start-up costs, and there is no need to store and ship products. Unlike in a brick and mortar business, you do not have to invest huge sums of money for advertising and product storage.
One of the easiest ways to become a business owner and all of this can be done from home. Working from home is gaining increased popularity these days, as the ubiquitous CoronaVirus pandemic is sweeping the global markets.
Why is this so?
Here are the 5 compelling reasons for this modern day phenomenon.
1) Low Start-up Costs
Starting a “Brick and Mortar” business is a very expensive proposition.
What is a brick and mortar store?
A brick and mortar store is the traditional business model you see when you walk down any street, in your city or town. It deals with customers in person, in an office or shop, that it owns or rents.
The coffee shop, or the hardware store, you walk by every day, on your way to school or work, are examples of brick and mortar businesses.
Depending on the business model and type of business, the cost of setting up a business like this can easily climb into the 10’s or 100’s of thousands of dollars.
Consider the location that you must choose, for housing your new business. We’ve all heard the expression, “location, location, location”. Guess what that means?
That means that you have to rent business space, in the most expensive part of town, place a huge deposit down, sign a lease, and hopefully have enough foot-traffic, to purchase enough of your products to pay the bills, and your employees.
The monthly expenses will include utilities, heat, insurance, employees wages, and advertising, … to mention only a few.
Have you noticed that I haven’t mentioned YOU, the owner, of this often struggling-to-survive brand-new business.
You can expect to work very long days, and if you have a family, at home, better get some photos, because you won’t be seeing them very often.
This business model is only for the fearless and totally dedicated. Expect a failure rate of up to 90%, and bankruptcies are not uncommon.
2) Work from Home
As an Affiliate Marketer, you can work from home, or anywhere that has an Internet connection. Do you like travelling? … Are you going on a Cruise? … well not these days, anyway. If you love travelling, and who doesn’t, simply bring your business with you!
The cost of commuting back and forth to work is an expense that becomes very costly to your new business in dollars, and in time as well.
Sitting in traffic, or scrunched-up on a bus, or train-car, is not very conducive to conducting business, not to mention your general health and well-being.
Imagine now, using all these wasted hours, applied to your own business, working from home. All this time can be used for growing your company, and not having to deal with people slobbering all over you.
Consider the cost of clothing yourself, and the dry-cleaning fees.
Working from home requires only casual dress. Forget the idea of working in your pyjamas, like you hear, every now an then.
You can start your day whenever you want.
No need to explain to an angry boss that you will be 10 minutes late, because there was an accident on your way to work, or that your child is sick, and you want to care for him. He doesn’t care about your problems, he just needs to get the job done.
You decide your hours.
You decide when and where you work, no one with a chip on their shoulder can ruin your day at 9:00 a.m.
3) No Need to Store and Ship Products
As a brick and mortar business owner, you need tons of square footage to house, store, and ship your products. Affiliate Marketing removes all of this from your daily activities, so you can focus on getting clients interested in your products. This is the essence of all business models. No clients, no business.
In Affiliate Marketing, you join an affiliate program, and you team-up with a provider of goods, products, or services.
This is best done after you have created a website for yourself, or you have someone build a website for you.
Building your own website is a better option when you know how, and it becomes another business saving for you.
It’s not difficult, and you can do it yourself, with my guidance, and pass the savings on to your business. After, you can promote this company’s products, goods, or services on your new website, with ads or links that lead your traffic back to your affiliate parent company.
When your traffic purchases these products, you receive a commission, which is usually a percentage of the sales. The good part of this system is that you don’t have to carry inventory, and deal with any physical products.
This is all done by the company that you are an affiliate of.
All online business owners have access to all the taxation advantages that brick and mortar business owners have. These tax laws vary from country to country, and that is for you to pursue in the same manner as all citizens of your country.
4) You become a Business Owner
It’s just that easy. You decide.
It’s easy to get started in this business model, but you will have to provide the effort, no one is going to do the work for you.
Being a business owner, will give you more independence. You will be able to choose the hours when you work, and even where you work. You will be able to work anywhere, as long as you have an Internet connection.
Affiliate Marketing for the Beginner, is one of the easiest ways to get started in business.
The moment you enter your teen years, you are faced with the fact of looking for a job, or better yet, a career. This is one of the grim facts of life.

You can learn to do it all here.
Working for myself, and being my own boss, is one of the greatest accomplishments that I have been able to achieve.
My first taste of business was in residential construction.
Construction is a brick and mortar business. I loved working in construction and I loved building things, but scaling my business was always very expensive, and finding and maintaining a labour force was always a challenge.
When one of my business friends tried to convince me to look at affiliate marketing as an option for my later years, he was pleasantly surprised that I jumped on board rather quickly.
Today we laugh at how easy I was to convince. I did not need convincing, because as a business owner, I saw the tremendous opportunity that was available to me, in this field.

Before 2019 I had no idea what affiliate marketing was until I started digging around the internet for ways in which I could start working and earning money from the comfort of my own house; honestly, it has been the best decision I’ve made ever since. Affiliate marketing is definitely a good starting point for anyone who is willing to start their own journey in the online world.
Thanks for reading my post. I’m pleased to hear that you’ve decided to take charge of your financial future. This pandemic is making work from home even more important than we could have imagined in 2019.
You’ve obviously made an excellent choice. You must be very proud of your decision.
Keep at it. When a lot of your friends have been left idle, you are marching forward.
Maybe you should let them “in” on your secret.
I really enjoyed reading your article it sounded so sensible and really most people are comfortable with working from home now. I guess making the transition from working in a brick and mortar company and taking the plunge to be your own boss feels like a big step. But affiliate marketing is so easy once you begin to understand that you still have to work at it and get a following. So much to learn but with lots of help.
It’s hard to tell if the pandemic was engineered for working from home, or if affiliate marketing, and working from home are a modern-day solution for pandemics and “home-body” types.
In any case, it’s best to make lemonade with the lemons we’re offered.
How’s life down under these days? Enjoying the sun much?
Thanks for the kind comments. I love positive people with new ideas.
