Tokyo Express (5 of 5): Vibrant Alleyways

To my critical eye, a city’s top-rated tourist spots aren’t always the best places to search for insights into its culture. Sometimes its best to get away from the well worn guidebook paths and venture down unknown streets in search of adventure. In Tokyo, each alleyway seems to have a unique story to tell. From dark, solitary lanes to bustling, neon-lit thoroughfares, Tokyo’s myriad side streets and alleyways are worlds unto themselves. Each passageway reveals something different—sometimes strange, beautiful or horrifying—about the swirling metropolis around it.
