A Solemn Homecoming

I had the honor of joining several hundred State Department employees at a solemn homecoming ceremony inside an aircraft hangar on Joint Base Andrews, Md. President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Clinton, and many other dignitaries joined the gathered crowd in honoring the service and celebrating the lives of four colleagues who were killed during a terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11.

Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Information Management Specialist Sean Smith, and Protective Security Specialists Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation while striving to bring peace and stability to a war-torn region of the world. The senseless and violent acts that led to their deaths cannot overshadow the brilliant lives these men led and the legacies they leave behind.
